Return To Me
If thou wilt return , O Israel, saith the Lord, return unto me: and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove, Jeremiah 4:1
This painting is about that moment you finally stop running. It’s based on Jeremiah 4:1, about returning to where you’re supposed to be.
The man in the crimson jacket isn’t sitting there defeated or depressed. He’s enlightened. He’s finally seen things for what they are and decided to make it right with his Creator. He’s made the call to change his ways and leave the mess behind.
I used a black background not for gloom, but to act like a spotlight. It makes the man and the gold island patterns pop. I wanted the focus to stay on him coming to his senses—showing that even when life is chaotic, there’s a way back.
